Abstract

Economic interventionism in modern economic reality is not a choice of the state, but rather a need to respond to the sanctions policies of Western countries, therefore, a theoretical analysis of the economic and legal prerequisites of interventionism is more relevant than ever. The object of study is international trade. The subject of the study is interventionism as a state of the national economy. The purpose of this article is to examine the development of international trade rules governing state interventionism in the light of the globalization of the world economy and contemporary changes in global geopolitics. The article argues that it is a mistake to believe that the government’s concern for people will be limited only to health issues or a ban on hazardous substances; first of all, the government’s concern is equal provision of the well-being of all segments of the population in the context of growing sanctions pressure on the national economy. If the principle is accepted that the consumer freedom of the individual should be controlled and limited by the government, then the extent of control depends on government policies and the public opinion behind those policies. This can lead to a gradual loss of individual freedom, with even a person's consumption choices subject to state control.
