Abstract

This article is devoted to one of the urgent problems of the modern economy – planned obsolescence. The causes of this phenomenon, dangerous consequences and methods of counteraction are considered. Planned obsolescence is a consequence of the consumer society formed in the twentieth century, which is based on the constant improvement of the quality of life due to the large number of goods provided to society. The natural result of such a model of society was the desire of manufacturers who had an economic advantage in the market to produce excess products with planned technical, stylistic and functional obsolescence in order to make more profit. The article presents a number of negative aspects of this problem, primarily the negative environmental impact and adverse economic consequences for consumers. Examples of partial or complete solutions to the problem of planned obsolescence are given.
