Abstract

The article considers the possibility of using the results of static sounding for the design and calculation of  bases on a natural foundation (shallow foundations). Currently, the foundations on such  bases are calculated according to the initial data obtained from the results of drilling wells and the information received in the form of sections that qualitatively reflect the nature of the soil stratification. The main physical and mechanical characteristics obtained by statistical processing of data, associated with individual selected engineering-geological elements of the soil massif are used for calculations of these substructures. Since the high cost and laboriousness of drilling and processing samples in the laboratory does not allow to take a grid of boreholes often enough, it is difficult to design foundations of optimal sizes. The method of static sounding allows to obtain  information continuously from the depth of the arrays and  directly on the site without laboratory tests. However, this method has been widely used mainly in the design of pile foundations. The article presents a new cost-effective method determined on static sounding for calculating the  bases  of  foundations using sections with continuous digital data of the calculated soil characteristics R and E. The transition from sounding data to the calculated characteristics R and E is based on the results of field experiments, which showed a close correlation between the soil resistance under the probe tip and the initial critical pressure during punch testing. The relation based on these  formulas that allow, according to sounding data, to determine the design characteristics R and E at a given point of the site is derived. The proposed method for designing foundations using digital foundation models was tested in the design of foundations for specific objects. The technical and economic effect is expressed in reducing the cost of engineering and geological surveys by up to 50% and reducing the time for issuing information about the initial characteristics of the soil mass by 5 – 6 times.
